YOUNGMOMS : PAY IT FORWARD

YOUNGMOMS : PAY IT FORWARD

I was (mostly) raised by a single mother and, as a mother myself, I know it could not have been easy for her. My mother worked hard and sacrificed for my brother and me, but ultimately it took a toll on all of us. As a young adult, I remember feeling like she just wanted to be loved and validated, an issue that would continually manifest in a variety of ways, but I was ill-equipped, searching for my own path of escape.
.
My mother passed away years ago. The reconciliation I hoped for never happened, but I will always be sensitive to the issues that surrounded us growing up. I promised myself to do my part and pay it forward because I eventually found my way.
.
They say being a mother is the hardest job you will ever have… but, can you imagine navigating motherhood in today’s world without resources? Enter YoungMoms, an organization dedicated to helping a high-risk group of young women find the support, resources, and skills they need to overcome obstacles and make positive life choices for both themselves and their children. And they are right here in Kennett, where my gallery is located.
.
As the holidays approach I remember how my friend (who is a single parent) described how sad and lonely she felt because she didn't have a gift to open on Christmas. It is not as superficial as it reads; don’t we all want to be thought of, especially around the season of giving? When everyone else is celebrating and you stop to think, wait, who is celebrating me? Purchasing her own Santa gifts and pretending to be surprised as her children look on wasn’t what she had in mind for her life and I have to wonder, did my mother feel the same way?
.
When my brand gained traction, I decided to use the jewelry I created to bring meaning and joy to women. In life, we give gifts to show that we care and in the acceptance of that gift, you evoke a sense of worth. Don’t we all want to feel like we matter to someone? That we are seen and worth acknowledging? You might be thinking that jewelry isn't the best gift to give someone who needs something more important in their daily life, after all a meal on the table would accomplish these same goals, but at the end of the day, it is consumed, gone. I believe a little luxury can go a long way.
.
Jewelry is transformative; something to be cherished and passed down. The jewelry we own tells our story. I create talisman necklaces for women all over the world that celebrate and honor their stories, their strengths, and pay homage to the ones they love. It is my hope that these shields will become their armor and inspire the passion to pay it forward one day, if and when they can.
.
On Small Business Saturday, I will launch my newest shield and gift one to every single YoungMom in the program. 43 YoungMoms will receive a shield necklace from me and guess what, you can win one, too…
.
So, are you ready to SHIELD YOURSELF™
.
Stay tuned for the launch of the YoungMoms Stocking Contest that will launch throughout many of the generous businesses in Historic Kennett Square on November 24th!

OCTOBER OPALS
OCTOBER OPALS

October 20, 2019

Fireworks, galaxies, and a shifting play-of-color are what make the opal so desirable. Opals are unlike any other gemstone in your jewelry box, beyond the myths and "supernatural" ways they form, you will never see two identical opals.

Opal, named from the Latin word "opalus" meaning "gemstone of many colors", was first known to mankind around 250 BC. Many cultures believed it possessed supernatural powers and carried or wore the gemstone as a prophecy and personal talisman.

WHY WE WEAR SKULLS

October 08, 2019

Skulls are incredibly popular in the world of design but before skulls were trendy, they were considered a symbol of power.
A symbolic representation of mortality spanning back to the 15th century, people adorned themselves with amulets sculpted into skulls and/or skeletons to serve as their personal talisman. This reminder became known as "memento mori", which translates to "remember you must die".
