Growing up in New England, I was always surrounded by the ocean. A few years ago, my family relocated to the Brandywine Valley and, as much as I love the rolling hills and lush landscape, I do miss seeing the water every day and the sense of calmness it instills. Even though I was surrounded by ocean-themed everything living on the coast, it felt cliche to incorporate into my design aesthetic. The longer we went with the absence of the ocean, I found myself reminiscing and those memories took me back to vacations spent in Maine and Naples, Florida, with my dearly missed in-laws.

Happy Birthday to all the January babies out there! Here's a little bit about your birthstone: Garnet.
Garnet has a long history in jewelry and has been prized as an ornamental jewel, worn for centuries as a protective and powerful talisman. It is the "carbuncle" of ancients.  The carbuncle was thought to be one of the four precious stones to be given to King Solomon by God.  Garnets decorated the throats of Egyptians and were entombed for prized possessions in their afterlife. Garnet adorned the wrists and shoulders of ancient Greeks, were used as signet rings in ancient Rome and were cherished and respected by many kings.
